My name is Debora Ouattara.

I was born and raised in Ferkessédougou, in the northern region of Côte d’Ivoire, where life unfolds through story, rhythm, and community.

In my Senoufo upbringing, wisdom was not delivered in formal lessons—it was shared around the wood fire at night, carried in the laughter of children playing outside, and woven into the everyday acts of a village that raised its children together.

Some of my earliest memories are listening to stories that blended humor, history, and moral insight. When the storytelling ended, I ran into the open air to play games with the neighbor’s children, inventing worlds of our own. In those moments, I learned how to collaborate, how to listen, and how to see others fully. The village raised us together, and that sense of shared responsibility became a core part of who I am.

My Ivorian heritage shaped my sense of identity and responsibility. Through spoken word, music, and communal wisdom, I learned that leadership begins with humility and that belonging is created through intention. These early lessons became the foundation of how I move through the world.

My journey eventually led me beyond my birthplace, first Belgium and now Canada, opening doors to new cultures, languages, and perspectives. Living and working in multicultural environments deepened my understanding of difference and strengthened my commitment to inclusion. I learned how to bridge perspectives with empathy, how to navigate complexity with curiosity, and how to honor my roots while embracing new ways of being.

Today, My Ivorian heritage continues to influence how I think, lead, and respond to challenges. I approach life with a blend of resilience and reflection, drawing strength from my ancestors and grounding from my faith.

As a teacher, these values shape my daily work. I see education not just as the transfer of knowledge but as the shaping of character, confidence, and belonging. My goal is to create a space where young people learn to see themselves and each other with dignity. I strive to foster inclusivity by encouraging students to share their stories, listen across differences, and recognize the strength that comes from diverse experiences. The same communal spirit that raised me in Ferkessédougou guides how I mentor, support, and uplift the next generation.

My story is still unfolding, shaped by gratitude, identity, and the deep roots that continue to guide me. Wherever I go, I carry Ferkessédougou with me—not as a memory, but as a compass. As you move through my website, I hope pieces of my story continue to reveal themselves to you.
